The Dilli – Fine Indian Cuisine
Some of the best working relationships begin with a simple conversation — and that’s exactly how our collaboration with The Dilli started.
While walking through Haslemere one afternoon, I spotted a new Indian restaurant quietly preparing to open its doors. The signage had just gone up and the team inside were putting the finishing touches in place. Curious and impressed by the look of the space, I decided to step inside and introduce myself. I asked if they were in need of a photographer — and as luck would have it, they were.
That spontaneous visit led to Sequoia Studios being commissioned to photograph both the interior and exterior of The Dilli. The shoot focused on showcasing the venue’s stylish design, warm lighting and modern yet welcoming feel. We captured key visual details — the texture of the furnishings, ambient mood lighting and the inviting layout of the dining space. The exterior, located on Haslemere High Street next door to The White Horse, was photographed in natural light to reflect the calm elegance of the building’s façade and setting.
Following the successful shoot, the owner invited me back to document the opening ceremony — a vibrant and joyful event attended by guests, friends and members of the local community. It was a pleasure to capture the energy and excitement of the day: ribbon-cutting, speeches, guests – including me and my wife Suzanne – enjoying their first tastes of the menu and the team celebrating months of hard work coming to life.
Shortly afterwards, we were commissioned again — this time to shoot The Dilli’s dessert menu. The goal was to highlight the artistry and refinement of the restaurant’s sweet offerings, from rich traditional Indian desserts to more contemporary creations. Each dish was styled and photographed with care to reflect the kitchen’s attention to flavour, texture and presentation.
What began as a chance encounter grew into an ongoing creative partnership. It’s been a privilege to support The Dilli through their early stages, helping them build a strong and visually consistent brand presence from day one.
