The Commission
A piece of railway history,
brought back to life.
Following the Mega Model Weekend, Hollycombe invited me back to photograph the opening of its restored Liphook Signal Box, which was retired through signalling modernisation.
More than a record of the ceremony, the photography needed to capture the character of the box itself — its restored structure, original railway details and the people gathered to mark its return to Hollycombe.
THE DETAILS
Levers, labels
and layers of history.
Inside the signal box, the smaller details tell much of the story. Original controls, painted timber, handwritten notices and decades of railway character sit alongside the careful work that has brought the building back to life.
Rather than simply recording the restoration, the photography looked for the details that give it a sense of age, purpose and place.
