Hollycombe Steam in the Country asked for help documenting its annual Mega Model Weekend, bringing together miniature engineering, working steam, model railways and beautifully detailed fairground attractions.
As a charitable trust run largely by volunteers, Hollycombe depends on the enthusiasm of the people who preserve, operate and share its collection. Sequoia Studios volunteered photography for the weekend, creating a varied image library capturing not only the exhibits, but the people and atmosphere surrounding them.
The brief was deliberately broad: document the event as it happened and capture the character that makes Hollycombe such a distinctive visitor experience.
THE EXPERIENCE
Small machines.
Big personalities.
What made the Mega Model Weekend such fun to photograph was the sheer variety. One moment I was concentrating on the intricate details of a miniature fairground ride; the next, a steam engine was moving through the grounds or an enthusiast was firing up a machine they'd spent countless hours maintaining.
But the event wasn't really just about machinery.
The volunteers, exhibitors and visitors gave everything life. Photographing those interactions alongside the engineering helped create a much broader picture of Hollycombe — not simply as a collection of historic objects, but as a place where people continue to operate, enjoy and share them.
