National Bacon Butty Day
23rd September – Celebrating a True British Classic
When it comes to comfort food, few things match the humble bacon butty. But where does the term butty come from? It’s a British colloquialism for a buttered sandwich, particularly when filled with something hot, like crispy bacon or even chips (yes, the famous chip butty).
Cross the border into Scotland and you’ll find the bacon butty goes by other names: bacon bridie, buttery or rowie. No matter what you call it, the combination of soft bread, butter with smoked or unsmoked bacon is undeniably one of life’s great pleasures.
Here at Sequoia Studios, we recently had the pleasure of working with the lovely team at The Folly Wine Bar in Petersfield, capturing mouthwatering shots of their bacon butties and lots of other hearty dishes that they serve. You can read more about this collaboration on The Fifth Element > The Folly Wine Bar story.
The bacon butty pictured was cooked in The Folly kitchen and was one of many delicious dishes that we produced to showcase The Folly food that warms the soul and brings people together, especially on brisk autumn mornings.
So on this National Bacon Butty Day, which is celebrated unofficially each year on 23rd September, take a moment to celebrate one of the simplest, most satisfying sandwiches ever created.
