September marks Organic September, a month long campaign celebrating food that is grown with care for the land, people and planet. For us at Sequoia Studios organic is not just a label. It is a philosophy and a story of authenticity, sustainability and connection to nature.
Growing with Nature
In my own garden and allotment rows of vibrant beetroots, freshly dug potatoes and wonderfully wonky baby carrots thrive through personal organic growing practices that avoid artificial pesticides and fossil fuel derived fertilisers. These humble vegetables remind us that organic food is grown with respect for healthy soil, clean water and thriving ecosystems.
Healthy Soil, Healthy Food
Organic food is part of a wider organic movement that connects healthy soil to healthy food. By choosing organic produce we support biodiversity, protect wildlife and reduce our impact on the environment. The benefits of organic food and farming reach far beyond flavour. They nurture resilience in both the land and the communities that depend on it.
Organic Living in Hospitality
Across the UK chefs and restaurateurs have embraced organic living. Many grow herbs in kitchen gardens, source from local organic farms and highlight organic certification on their menus. Others buy local organic products to strengthen relationships with farmers and support sustainable food sourcing through reduced food miles and traceable provenance.
When I capture these ingredients through photography I aim to preserve their natural imperfections. Soil kissed carrots, blemished beetroot and freshly pulled potatoes all tell their own story. There is beauty in that honesty. My goal as a food photographer is to celebrate the connection between food and soil and to raise awareness of how organic farming works with nature rather than against it.
