The Commission

Food photography,
created as art.

The Rising Sun commissioned Sequoia Studios to create a bespoke collection of fine art food photography for permanent display throughout its dining room.

Working with a carefully selected range of ingredients, produce and prepared food, we created 16 original photographic studies exploring colour, form, texture and detail.

The finished images were produced as mounted and framed prints, creating an original collection designed specifically around the character of the pub and its dining spaces.

The Collection

Simple ingredients
become the subject.

Rather than conventional menu photography, the collection treats food and ingredients as subjects in their own right.

Squash, asparagus, wild garlic, herbs, eggs, shellfish, fish, vegetables and freshly baked bread were photographed using different surfaces, lighting and compositions — creating individual pieces with their own character while maintaining a visual relationship across the wider collection.

The intention was simple: to create photographs interesting enough to live on the walls long after the meal was finished.

IN SITU

From photograph
to dining room.

The final photographs were mounted, framed and installed throughout The Rising Sun, becoming part of the visual identity of the dining room rather than simply decoration added afterwards.

Seeing the collection in its intended environment completes the commission: original food photography created for the venue, produced as physical artwork and experienced by guests as part of the space.
